Get Together NW History

In 2008, a small group of interested individuals had a visioning meeting with another Houston group called The Get Together.   The Get Together was a group of business people formed to use their business expertise, creativity, and connections to help meet the needs of Christ-centered ministries and the people they serve.  They do this with monthly luncheons, September through April.

The goals of the luncheons are for the business people to:

  • Build relationships with ministry representatives
  • Learn about ministries
  • Work together to come up with creative ways to meet ministry needs
From that visioning meeting, with the guidance of The Get Together, the GTNW was formed.  Each year we select 7-12 partner ministries that we focus on by highlighting what they do and focusing on their needs.  The ministry must be Christ-centered in their approach and have a 501(c)3.

Church Support

Although Champion Forest Baptist Church (CFBC) supports us and provides a meeting place, we are not just a ministry of their church.  The Missions staff at CFBC and The Metropolitan Baptist Church (The Met) were key in starting the organization and it’s success to-date.  CFBC has graciously provided a location and audio-visual equipment for the lunch and board meetings.  Both CFBC and The MET have made generous donations toward our budget and in-kind donations to operate the organization.  We have representatives from several churches attend the meeting and would be happy to discuss with anyone how to become more involved while, at the same time, engaging their congregations in opportunties to do mission work in their community.

Financial Support

What expenses do we have to cover?  We charge $15.00 for lunch and we want to keep it at this price.  We have a few restaurants who graciously work with us to deliver the meal and keep it within our price range.  Sometimes it averages out to less than $15.00 and sometimes more.  We also have expenses of table cloths, name tag, pens, printing, etc.  One requirement to use the Get Together name and expertise is to hire a part-time coordinator to organize the lunch and board meetings, interview and work with partner ministries and to obtain their needs and prayer lists, follow-up with lunch attendees who indicate they can meet a need, etc.  We also have the expense of a website.
